Barolo 'Gavarini Chiniera' Elio Grasso 2012

Barolo Gavarini Chiniera by Elio Grasso takes its name from the cru which it comes from : just 3 hectares of vineyards at 350 meters above the sea level, South facing, perfectly balanced with the calcareous-sandy soil of the hill. The Monforte area, right for these unique features in the exposures and in the conditions of the soil, manage to give grapes able to produce wines of extraordinary finesse, structure, elegance and prospect for aging. The scenario which appears from the village, stuck in a dedalus of streets among the little houses, is the one of a hill sprawl, one sloping down to the other, being every one of them unique for pedoclimatic features and prospective of winemaking. For this reason Elio Grasso has decided, since always, to produce all of his wines in purity, vinifying separately every single vineyard, capitalizing on the coexistence between the traditional oak barrels (the big Slavonian ones) and the modern barriques of french origin. This choice allows to define which operations is better to put in practice in the cellar to protect and enhance the specificities that each single vine row of Nebbiolo is able to express. In this sense, Barolo Gavarini Chiniera by Elio Grasso is the tangible proof of the majesty featured by this kind of wine, able to go through an extraordinary maturation till the tenth or fifteenth year of age.
